From the late ’80s through the early 2000s, Japanese tuning enjoyed its golden era. Countless tuning shops emerged: some legendary, others more underground, while the range of affordable sports cars kept growing.
On the streets, you’d find street drifters, kanjozoku crews, and Wangan racers. On the track, series like JGTC, Super Taikyu, and various one-make championships were at their peak, alongside other disciplines such as professional drifting (D1GP) and Time Attack.

To keep up with this booming scene, a wide range of automotive media appeared in Japan: Option, RevSpeed, Carboy, Best MOTORing, Drift Tengoku, and many more. Whether in print or video format (VHS or DVDs), this era produced an incredible variety of content. Japan’s top drivers became true icons through their regular appearances, including Keiichi 'Dorikin' Tsuchiya, Nobuteru 'NOB' Taniguchi, and Manabu 'Max' Orido.

Today, many of the big names in Japanese automotive media have disappeared. Some are still around, but there’s no denying that the golden age is behind us. At MTK, one of our main goals is to keep this legacy alive and share it with as many people as possible.
That’s how MTK Archives was born. The idea is simple: to offer authentic and diverse content. Through the Instagram account @mtk_archives, we regularly post curated photos and videos, carefully edited and subtitled.

We source everything directly from Japan, importing a selection of the best magazines, VHS tapes, and DVDs, which we then scan and digitize in the highest possible quality.
With over 27,000 followers today, @mtk_archives is growing fast and has earned a solid reputation within the scene. Feel free to follow the page to stay up to date with upcoming posts!
